2050 OUTLOOK REPORT: GLOBAL NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION TO INCREASE BY 31 PER CENT

In order to meet the increasing demand in the global natural gas market, production is expected to increase by 1.24 trillion cubic metres compared to 2023 and reach 5 trillion 317 billion cubic metres in 2050. According to the ‘2050 Outlook’ forum of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), global natural gas manufacture will increase by 31 per cent in 2050 compared to 2023. By 2030, natural gas production is projected to grow by 1.6 percent yearly, and this growth is expected to decline to 1 per cent in 2030 and 0.6 per cent in the 2040s.

The Middle East is expected to increase its natural gas production by 461 billion cubic metres by 2050 and lead the way in natural gas production growth. The most powerful growth in the region is expected in Africa with 250 billion cubic metres. Eurasia is expected to contribute 362 bcm, North America 107 bcm, Asia Pacific and Latin America 91 bcm and 87 bcm respectively. Against this backdrop, Europe's natural gas production is projected to decrease by 119 bcm due to resource depletion and policy-driven shifts away from fossil fuels.

Among other projected developments, North America's production is expected to increase to 1 trillion 382 billion cubic metres by 2050, maintaining its position as the continent with the highest production, while production in Eurasia is expected to rise to 1 trillion 208 billion cubic metres and in the Middle East to 1 trillion 155 billion cubic metres.
